Container Ship Orders Break All Previous Records in 2024

Container ship orders have surged to a record 4.4 million TEUs in 2024, surpassing the previous peak of 4.1 million TEUs set in 2021. This milestone highlights strong demand for maritime transport, as shipping lines race to expand fleets amid evolving supply chains and booming global trade.

Order Boom

Major shipping companies are aggressively placing orders for new vessels to meet increasing demand driven by e-commerce and manufacturing growth. Industry experts cite expanded trade routes, port developments, and the drive for greener ships as key factors fueling this surge. Orders for energy-efficient and eco-friendly ships are at the forefront, signaling a shift toward sustainability.
